Harper Smith Engineering Recruitment are working with a well-established, New Zealand-owned multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to recruit an experienced Senior Stormwater Engineer for their Auckland team.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded consultancy with expertise across civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental and wider engineering disciplines.
The business has a strong pipeline of infrastructure work and is looking for an experienced stormwater engineer who can take ownership of projects, work closely with clients and contribute to the continued growth of its water infrastructure capability.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on senior engineering position covering the full project lifecycle, from initial planning and technical assessment through design, consenting and project delivery.
The workload is varied and will include stormwater infrastructure, flood management, hydraulic modelling, treatment solutions and infrastructure upgrades across both public and private sector projects.
You’ll have the opportunity to remain technically involved while taking increasing responsibility for projects, clients and the development of less experienced engineers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the planning, design and delivery of stormwater projects
- Undertaking hydrological and hydraulic assessments and modelling
- Design of stormwater networks, culverts, outfalls and treatment systems
- Flood risk assessment and development of practical flood management solutions
- Preparing and reviewing engineering designs, technical reports and documentation
- Managing project scope, programme, budgets, risk and technical quality
- Working directly with clients, councils, developers and other project stakeholders
- Collaborating with civil, environmental and other engineering disciplines
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to developing engineers
- Contributing to proposals, client relationships and future project opportunities
About You
We’re looking for an experienced engineer who is comfortable taking responsibility for their own projects while enjoying being part of a wider multidisciplinary environment.
Ideally, you will have:
- A BE qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- 6+ years of relevant stormwater, water resources or three waters engineering experience
- New Zealand consulting experience would be highly advantageous
- Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulic design and stormwater management
- Experience with hydraulic modelling and flood assessments
- An understanding of New Zealand engineering, consenting and regulatory requirements
- Strong project management and technical delivery skills
- The confidence to work directly with clients and other stakeholders
- CPEng status or be progressing towards achieving it
This is a genuine senior position where you can take ownership of projects while remaining technically involved.
You’ll work alongside experienced specialists across a multidisciplinary consultancy, giving you access to a broad technical network while retaining the autonomy to manage projects and develop strong client relationships.
There is also scope to develop your leadership responsibilities as the stormwater and wider infrastructure workload continues to grow.
Harper Smith Engineering Recruitment is a specialist recruitment consultancy servicing the New Zealand engineering market.
