Civil Engineer - Queenstown

Harper Smith Recruitment is working with an established and well-regarded engineering consultancy seeking a capable Civil Engineer to join its Queenstown operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to take greater ownership of their work, build strong client relationships and play an important role in developing the company's civil engineering presence in the region.

You will be the principal civil engineering resource based in Queenstown, working independently on local projects while benefiting from the technical expertise, resources and support of experienced civil engineering teams in Christchurch and Nelson.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking civil engineering design and project delivery across a range of land development and infrastructure projects.
• Managing projects from initial concept and design through to construction and completion.
• Working closely with clients, contractors, local authorities and other engineering disciplines.
• Producing and coordinating civil engineering designs, drawings and technical documentation.
• Taking responsibility for project programmes, deliverables and client communication.
• Collaborating with civil engineering colleagues in Christchurch and Nelson for technical input and additional project resources.
• Contributing to the ongoing development of the consultancy's Queenstown civil engineering capability.

We are interested in speaking with Civil Engineers who enjoy responsibility, have sound technical design skills and are comfortable managing their own workload.

Ideally, you will offer:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering.
• Experience in civil engineering design within a New Zealand consultancy environment.
• Exposure to land development, earthworks, drainage and associated civil infrastructure.
• Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D would be preferred.
• Good understanding of New Zealand engineering standards and local authority requirements.
• Strong communication, client relationship and project coordination skills.
• The confidence to work independently while knowing when to draw on wider technical support.

You may be an experienced Intermediate Civil Engineer ready for greater responsibility or a Senior Civil Engineer seeking a position offering more independence and ownership.

This is not a traditional civil engineering position where you are one of many engineers within a large office. You will have the opportunity to establish yourself as the key civil engineering contact in Queenstown, develop relationships across the local market and take real ownership of your projects.

Importantly, you won't be working in isolation. You will have access to the knowledge, technical expertise and resources of established engineering teams in Christchurch and Nelson.
